The Society relies heavily on the services of volunteers for a whole range of activities.
If you are in possession of a D1 category on your driving licence you can drive one of our three minibuses that collect members for the social afternoons, the bowls and other outings and activities.
For some of our members who are unable to access the minibuses, a private car is the means by which they can attend an activity. If you are able to use your own car to collect some of our less mobile members we would be pleased to hear from you.
We also depend on volunteers to help at the social afternoons, both in the kitchen preparing and serving teas and in supporting the members.
Volunteers are also needed to help at the Art & Craft and Handicraft afternoons. You do not need to be artistic / just interested in what goes on.
Both sighted and sight impaired volunteers are needed to support the work of the Society's Help and Information Desk at the Eye Clinic in Eastbourne District General Hospital. This is known as ECSS (Eye Clinic Support Service). Volunteering is a rewarding experience and our volunteers are much appreciated and valued. The work of our volunteers is acknowledged at the Annual Lunch and Awards Ceremony, which is always a happy occasion, usually attended by the Mayor of Eastbourne, who is President of the Society.
