Boat Trip along the River at Bodiam

Some of the members on board the boatSome of the SIGNET members went on a river trip near Bodiam on the 25th of August.

Also, they enjoyed a coach trip through the countryside and a visit to a local hostelry.

Sovereign Harbour Boat Trip

On a sunny Sunday afternoon in June the SIGNET members enjoyed a boat trip around Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour.

The 30 minute trip with commentary took in three of the four inner harbours.  First Signet Members at the Harbourthe North harbour, the biggest, where the larger boats are moored and where the boat yard is situated.  Next the west harbour where a small fishing fleet is moored and lastly the inner harbour where most of the visiting yachts and boats are situated.  Within the inner harbour are the giant lock gates which open every half hour to the outer harbour and the English Channel.

After the trip when we had all got our land legs back the members relaxed at one of the many cosmopolitan restaurants and bars along the waterfront.

Here ended a very pleasurable visit to the Sovereign Harbour.

Visit to the BBC Television Studios

Picture of Members outside the BBC CentreOn Saturday 27th February 2010, a number of Signet members along with carers visited the BBC Studios in London.

We were allowed to look into the News room where all the news for television, radio and internet is prepared.    A detailed explanation of how the news is prepared and edited was given.    A video link to various studios and the gallery was graphically described.

Picture of members in Studio 6We were then taken to see Studio 6 where programmes such as Jonathon Ross and Red Dwarf had been produced.

Our next stop was at the Weather Centre.    A description of how the weather forecast is produced and how it is put onto our screens was given.

After relaxing in one of the dressing rooms, we were taken into a mock-up studio where some were put under the spotlight in a “Weakest Link” type programme.

Whilst in this studio, members were able to feel some of the costumes used by some of the “Eastenders” actors.

An enjoyable day was had by all.
