Louis's stall

Louis Lushington, grandson of Eastbourne Blind Society member Amy Lushington, used his initiative by raising funds for Eastbourne Blind Society through the sale of sugar mice at his school fair.  Louis made and sold the mice raising £20 on behalf of the Society.  We are delighted with his donation and very appreciative of Louis's efforts on our behalf.  Thank you Louis!

We said a sad farewell to one of our Welfare Officers, Liz Coles, who retired at the end of February.  Liz covered the Hampden Park and Willingdon areas.  She will be greatly missed by both the members and staff and was a valued part of the Eastbourne Blind Society team.

Unfortunately, this year the Annual Christmas Carol Concert and the Annual Christmas Lunch were cancelled due to very heavy falls of snow which meant that we were unable to send out our minibuses to collect all our members.

The Christmas Tea was celebrated on the 16th of December and was enjoyed by over 50 members.    They were entertained with carols sung by members of the Renaissance Singers (which included Deirdre and Graham!!).

09/07/10, Donation from Tesco

Eastbourne Blind Society are thrilled to be awarded a special donation from Tesco, as their way of thanking the local community for their tolerance during the refurbishment of the store.  Eastbourne Blind Society were fortunate to be selected as the recipients of the award.

An HD television set, a DVD player, an MP3 player and some USB memory sticks were donated for use in the resource centre.  The TV now makes it easier to demonstrate the "mouse" type of electronic magnifiers.  The MP3 player will be used in conjunction with the reader scanners, which scans books and reads them back making it possible to listen to a favourite book any time or place.

Being presented with donation by Gill FountainThe picture shows us receiving the donated items from Gill Fountain, customer services manager, who nominated as for the award in recognition of  the support we provided to her mother who was a member of Eastbourne Blind Society.

Sponsored Cycle Ride

Michael Pemble, a pupil at Willingdon Community School, completed a 5 mile sponsored cycle ride as part of the community-based projects scheme at the school.

He learned about Eastbourne Blind Society through his grandfather and chose us to benefit from his hard work.  He did all the organisation by himself and raised a magnificent £56.00.

The money raised will go towards purchasing additional equipment for the resource centre which means that it will be of benefit to all our members.
