Summer Concert |
|
On
Friday13th May 2011, The Sovereign Polyphony held their Summer Concert
for the members. |
|
The
Mayor, Councillor Caroline Heaps, attended part of the concert and
enjoyed chatting to members of Eastbourne Blind Society. She
had earlier recorded a talk for Eastbourne Talking News Association.

Louis Lushington, grandson of Eastbourne Blind Society member Amy Lushington, used his initiative by raising funds for Eastbourne Blind Society through the sale of sugar mice at his school fair. Louis made and sold the mice raising £20 on behalf of the Society. We are delighted with his donation and very appreciative of Louis's efforts on our behalf. Thank you Louis! |

| We said a sad farewell to one of our Welfare Officers, Liz Coles, who retired at the end of February. Liz covered the Hampden Park and Willingdon areas. She will be greatly missed by both the members and staff and was a valued part of the Eastbourne Blind Society team. | |

Christmas 2010 |

| We were able to rearrange our Christmas Lunch on the 19th of February. Despite the delay, over 60 members attended and had an enjoyable time. | |

| Unfortunately, this year the Annual Christmas Carol Concert and the Annual Christmas Lunch were cancelled due to very heavy falls of snow which meant that we were unable to send out our minibuses to collect all our members. | |
|
|
|
|
The Christmas Tea was celebrated on the 16th of December and was enjoyed by over 50 members. They were entertained with carols sung by members of the Renaissance Singers (which included Deirdre and Graham!!). |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Eye Clinic Support Service Volunteers held their Sherry and Mince Pies Christmas Party at the Centre in Longstone Road on Friday 17th December. |
|
|
In December 2010 Sovereign Polyphony handed the EBS £620 raised via their entertainments with carols & songs. This with grateful thanks to :- Simply Italian Restaurant , Enterprise Centre ,The Harbour Friends , Inglewood Nursing Home & those who gave to the bucket collections.

| As part of the White Cane Awareness Day, Sainsbury's, Arndale Centre Store, organised a stall outside the store selling home-made cakes and second-hand books in aid of funds for the Society. | |

09/07/10, Donation from Tesco

Eastbourne Blind Society are thrilled to be awarded a special donation from Tesco, as their way of thanking the local community for their tolerance during the refurbishment of the store. Eastbourne Blind Society were fortunate to be selected as the recipients of the award.
|
|
|
An HD television set, a DVD player, an MP3 player and some USB memory sticks were donated for use in the resource centre. The TV now makes it easier to demonstrate the "mouse" type of electronic magnifiers. The MP3 player will be used in conjunction with the reader scanners, which scans books and reads them back making it possible to listen to a favourite book any time or place.

Sponsored Cycle Ride |
|
|
Michael Pemble, a pupil at Willingdon Community School, completed a 5 mile sponsored cycle ride as part of the community-based projects scheme at the school. He learned about Eastbourne Blind Society through his grandfather and chose us to benefit from his hard work. He did all the organisation by himself and raised a magnificent £56.00.

The money raised will go towards purchasing additional equipment for the resource centre which means that it will be of benefit to all our members. |

During February 2010, Eastbourne Blind Society was one of the three local nominated charities taking part in the Eastbourne Waitrose Community Matters fundraising initiative. Deirdre Dean, Chief Executive being presented with the cheque for £525.00 by Tracy Roberts of Waitrose. Thanks go to those who nominated the society, to those who supported the Society and to Waitrose. |

| Health and Wellbeing Event 9th & 10th April 2010 | |
|
Eastbourne Blind Society exhibited at the Health and Wellbeing Event organised by the Central Eastbourne Partnership Patients Forum at the Winter Gardens on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th April. |
|
|
|
|
| Deirdre Dean gave a presentation on the services provided. The event provided a useful networking occasion and was also effective in bringing notice of our services to the general public. | |

Sunday 28th February 2010, Eastbourne Resident Steve Markwick arranged a Charity Jazz Night at the Saffrons Sports Centre in aid of funds for Eastbourne Blind Society.
